Hi I'm Cody, I enjoy creative marketing strategies, developing websites and competitive sports of all kinds! You'll find me blogging, designing, coaching baseball or catching a live music set!

 

Right now, I am helping run a new live music venue in south Texas, Camp House Concerts, get up and running as one of the co-founders. I currently handle the website design, copy-editing, e-mail marketing and talent acquisitions. Concurrent with my time at Camp House Concerts, I am able to continue my passion of baseball by coaching kids (8U - 18U) at Warriors Baseball Academy where I serve as the Brand Manager & Marketing Consultant.

EDUCATION

Sam Houston State University

Bachelors of B.A. in Marketing

At Sam Houston State University, I continued to pursue my studies in Marketing.  This is where I developed an ultimate understanding of marketing and management strategies.

In regards to market research, I applied earlier courses on statistics and learned to tell a story through data sets while studying the advantages and disadvantages of market surveys and polling methods.

The school of Management challenged me develop strategic management thoughts and theories.  During my time, I completed an in-depth company audit on Madison Square Garden Company (NYSE: MSG) where I  developed an External & Internal Factor Evaluation with various matrices: (SWOT) (CPM) (EFE) (IFE) (QSPM). Also, formalized a 3-year strategy for implementation that included contingency plans and trigger-points.

Briar Cliff University

Varsity Baseball Scholarship

Cody received a school-sponsored scholarship to play baseball. Briar Cliff University is a private Franciscan Catholic School in Sioux City, IA. Anything but close to home, BCU was over 1,300 miles away from home. He landed a spot on the Chargers Baseball Team and played for two years before injuries forced him to hang up the cleats. Cody studied Marketing while attending the university.

Branding: Redesigned company website to establish a more user friendly experience. Created a brand guide to restructure company’s identity. This created consistent branding across all media platforms: web, social media and merchandise designs.

Communication: Redesigned the communication process to customers utilizing various media outlets (web, social media, email, print) to increase brand awareness and loyalty. The process also improved customer traffic and retention.

Promotional Campaigns: Analyzed multiple marketing avenues across various outlets including mass media publications, TV spots and live entertainment. Based on ROI analysis, designed and developed web and print ads for local publications including HoustonLife.

Entrepreneurship: Established a concert venue that operates 5+ annual events with an average attendance of 250. Developed and communicated business plan outlining short and long term growth objectives and associated costs.

Web Design: Developed a website using WordPress to provide music fans upcoming show details, services, and industry news that averages 10K monthly views. Applied SEO approaches to deliver top level rankings in search results.

Project Management: Planned and executed festival operations including: talent acquisition, guest services, venue layout and merchandising.

Social Media: Established multi-media campaigns for each event achieving maximum exposure for new branding and logo identity. Provided timely materials to customers and local publications: press releases, blog, and newsletters.

Located, registered, planned and executed over 60 community and school events over the course of the year. Acted as a liaison between 3 school districts and the marketing department to build relationships and increase customer traffic.

Summer Collegiate Baseball League

Operations: Managed and staffed 80 game day team members to ensure smooth game day operations and enjoyable patron experience. This resulted in an average attendance growth of 26% (2,500 patrons per game) as well as increased season ticket holders to 175.

Sales: Achieved and maintained 93% partner retention with 120 community partners which effectively helped the sales team generate sponsorship revenues of $289K. This exceeded the goal by $40K for the year.

Event Planning: Developed and executed the operations by having strategic planning policies in place. This streamlined the setup and takedown process by reducing execution time 30%.

Objective
Redesign website to correct optimization across all screen sizes and improve aesthetics. Increase organic website traffic by transforming site into a SEO fluent website.

Before
Website served as a billboard of accomplishments with information that was not useful for current and new customers. The lack of keywords and proper use of them in headings, photos and site description tied with other issues such as: multiple fonts used, page speed and backlinks, cumulatively hurt organizations Google PageRank (Google PR). When a search for the companies name, “Houston Warriors Baseball Academy”, they appeared as the third link on Google’s front page.

Efforts
Used Wix platform to transform site into a fully optimized and aesthetically appealing site. Updated out-of-date information with proper messaging while keeping the brand image in place.

Performed keyword search and competitor search within Google Search to determine what keywords would best boost the websites Google PR. Following research, added the appropriate keywords into respected areas within website. We also added backlinks to appropriate associated links (i.e. social media profiles, partners and affiliations).

Objective Develop a website in hopes to showcase live-music venue and become an industry leader within Country Music industry by delivering appropriate content through websites associated Country Music Blog.

Efforts With WordPress software, we first focused on the showcasing the live-music venue by setting up necessary pages and content (i.e. About, Photos, Contact, Upcoming Shows). This helped us generate a baseline for the brand’s look and feel. We used customer feedback and suggestions by polling the company’s audience during live events to enhance the user experience. This helped us gain knowledge of our audience profile and technical skill levels.

After the website structure was in place, we turned our attention towards general keyword research along with looking at the efforts of our competitors. With similar business names and models on the web, we decided to start focusing on delivering content through the previously mentioned Country Music Blog in hopes to boost our Google PR.

First, we set out a mission or set of goals for the type of content we wanted to cover. This led us to write many posts about music news, album reviews and so on. These efforts yielded a small conversion of new website visitors but a high percentage of previous clients via social media channels. With a small number of brand followers (or social media followers), we knew we had to think about different content ideas.

We researched our competitors and various keywords such as “music” and “country music” related words to determine which keywords and content material generated the most traffic.

Objective To create a website that showcases the rental property in all aspects that would adhere to prospective renters standards. Increase property booking volume by competing in the highly competitive real estate market on SERP (Search Engine Results Page).

Efforts Researched various websites of industry leaders to grasp what kind of information was prevalent in the real estate industry. Worked with management to generate information regarding booking websites, social media profiles, amenities and property photos.

Results Today, the website offers an inside look into the property with photos, guided video-tour, list of amenities and user reviews. By strategically placing CTA’s (Call To Action), visitors are more likely to check available booking dates therefore leading them down the buyer’s journey.

As an added benefit, the website informs users on “what to bring”, “what to expect” and “local attractions”. By creating a list of surrounding attractions, eateries and gift shops, we have increased our Google Score with a strong number of backlinks while giving users the pertinent information needed during their stay.

Objective Produce a reference website within the Farm Equipment and Auction & Estate Sale Services Industry while providing information regarding upcoming auctions as provided by owner.

Efforts Utilized WordPress in order to create a fully optimized site that delivers appropriate content to the companies target audience.

Results Site offers a fully responsive user experience that is simple and to the point. Traffic is generated by direct clicks and indirectly generates profits for owner by promoting estate, farm and equipment sales.

Efforts
Researched the specific keyword area of Concert Posters and found that there was no website that served as an image archive for collectible concert posters in the country music sector. By properly using headlines, alt-text, image descriptions and backlinks, we hope to have a constant increase in website visitors.
